What does medical physics have to do with cancer?

    • admin says:

Medical physics graduate could practice clinically as part of the healthcare team of a cancer patient. They design and implement the radiation therapy required to combat the spread of the disease in the body. They could also research the best way to dose the cancer cells with minimal effect on the healthy ones around them.

hi how did you get involved in this career? Could you do this in africa

    • admin says:

I become involve in this career because of interest and desire to contribute to the use of physics in medicine. Before my on-going training in medical physics, i studied physics (solid state), optical electronics, and education up to graduate level. Nevertheless, I took over 30 credit hours of graduate didactic courses required by the American Association of Physics in Medicine, and American Board of Radiology over the last 3 years. At the momemnt, I am at the stage of begininig clinical experience and taking the part 1 of ABR board exam.It is quite an exciting journey into a bright and great field.
Yes, we can practice in Africa. Every hospital has a medical physicist functioning as either a radiation safety officer, radiation therapist and many more. I do meet some of my professional colleagues from Africa at the annual Radiological Society of North America meetings.
